Proposed in the fall of 2020 by Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown, the ACORNS Team was created to provide help to those living with homelessness, mental illness, and substance abuse disorders who require crisis response or a referral for ongoing services.  It embraces a "care and safety first, enforcement last" approach, striving to serve as a connection between these populations, agency partners, the community, and the criminal justice system.
