The Raleigh Youth Summit

The Raleigh Youth Summit is a collaborative, youth-inspired partnership between the City of Raleigh and the community designed to encourage, educate, and empower city youth through meaningful engagement. Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown envisioned an event that would celebrate youth while offering children and teens a unique opportunity to interact and engage with their peers, motivational speakers, talented presenters, members of the Raleigh Police Department, and any community and corporate sponsors that wanted to participate.

2019: The First Summit

After more than 18 months of planning and collaboration among several City of Raleigh departments, and based on feedback and input from the Raleigh Police Department youth ambassadors, the inaugural Raleigh Youth Summit was held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the NC State University McKimmon Center. More than 250 children and teens—ranging in age from 13 to 18—attended the free, day-long event.

The event featured numerous workshops and presentations designed to educate, inspire, and encourage leadership. There was a career fair manned by representatives of local agencies and a virtual reality activity with Raleigh Police Department officers, sponsored by NC State University and Equality Lab.
